Links tradition at its finest. Voted by Golf Magazine as one of the best new courses in the country, Northgate has been the host golf course of two Reno Open Tour events and annual U.S. Open Qualifying tournaments. The meticulously contoured fairways and strategically placed bunkering highlights this golf course that will play just less than 7,000 yards providing a challenging experience to golfers of all skill levels. Nicknamed the “St. Andrews of the Sierra, “ we are positive you will enjoy the tradition of links golf in Reno.

Facilities

Pro shop, snack bar, restaurant, driving range and putting green.

Signature Hole

The par-3 16th is set within the framework of the majestic links-style mounding highlighted by a left front bunker. This hole will challege the skill of all golfers. The 16th plays 215 yards from the championship tees requiring a precision shot, which, if accomplished, the center of the green is an excellent reward. If your ball does stray, the right side of the green will allow players the opportunity to still make par.

I played this course in September 2004. It is very scenic, but challenging. Many of the tees are elevated, and the course is very hilly, with lots of downhill and sidehill lies. On windy days, you better bring your short game.

Brian King
Orlando, Fl
A great, windswept, links style layout with indigenous plants coming into play when shots stray from the fairway and greens. Some holes require strategic club selection or shaped shots to stay in the fairways. The undulating greens have 5' tall flagsticks which are good indicators of the windy conditions you may experience. If the wind conditions are right and your well struck, blind downhill tee shot is aimed at last house in the distance, you can reach the 553 yard, Par 5, 18th hole in 2 shots with a short iron. Great views of the surrounding mountains and valley. Lots of wildlife, such as birds and rabbits, to be seen. Even saw a coyote near the 8th hole.
