While world-class golf, skiing and almost every other recreation sport imaginable are within a short drive, the Reno/Sparks area also has shopping, dining, cultural and entertainment experiences to match most metropolitan areas.
To further stake its claim as a major golf destination, Reno has hosted the Reno/Tahoe Open in consecutive years since 1999. A regular PGA Tour tournament, The Reno/Tahoe Open is played in late August at Montreux Golf & Country Club.
The area also has a well-deserved reputation for staging popular major events that attract visitors from all over the world. They include the Reno Rodeo (the "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West"), Hot August Nights (celebrating America's love affair with classic cars and rock 'n' roll music), Best-in-the-West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, Nevada State Fair, the Great Reno Balloon Race, National Championship Air Races and much more.
